Breathtaking Bargi

Located at just 40 km south of Jabalpaur is the serene getaway of Bargi…..

With the reservior spread over 270 km², Bargi has been a very popular one-day tourist destination in the region….

The sunrise from the balcony of the room, overlooking the calm waters of resrvoir is simply breathtaking!!

….& it has a very strategic location, right on the Bargi dam reservoir….

Maikal resort is operated by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC)….

Apart from the usual water sport facilities, MPTDC also runs one day excursion cruises to the 5 islands that are formed in the Bargi reservoir!!

Bargi Dam is one of the first completed dams out of the chain of 30 major dams to be constructed on Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh, India…..

…& it taps into one of the major rivers of the central India – Narmada!

The dam construction work started in 1974 and was completed in 1990 when the dam was filled to its complete capacity.

The height of the dam is 69 m and length of about 5.4 km…….

Apart from its hydropower generation capacity of 100 MW, it helps irrigate almost 3000 sq. KM of farming land in Jabalpur, Mandla and Seoni districts of Madhya Pradesh.

…which forms a backwater reservoir lake of about 75 km in length and 4.5 km width.
