Enroute to Talasari from Khanvel……

….& Located nearly 150 km away from Mumbai, off the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, is a lesser known village – Kurze (or Kurje)….

Kurze has an earth-fill dam built on the river Viroli.

It is also known as Dapcheri Dam…

Spread over 5600 sq. km, this reservoir has a storage capacity of 39,000 cubic km of water….

It is a lifeline for over two dozen surrounding villages & the agri-economy supported by them.

This place is also becoming popular as ‘Maharashtra’s Bharatpur’…..

….where the winged visitors have found a new home for winters…..

…& several species of migratory birds nest here during the months of Dec to April….

The place is not very well known…..

…but it has a tremendous potential of turning into a bird tourism desination, if developed properly !

There were a bunch of kids swimming in the lake & two small shepherd boys playing below this tree…..

…..which makes me, a city dweller, so envious of their carefree, stressfree & peaceful lifestyle !
